White House Poetry

The President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities hosted an event last night in the East Room of The White House to promote the importance of poetry and the arts.  The event is part of Michelle Obama’s White House Music Series.

Performers included Common, singer-songwriters Aimee Mann and Jill Scott; former U.S. poets laureate Rita Dove and Billy Collins; avant-garde poets Alison Knowles and Kenneth Goldsmith; and comedian-banjoist Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers. (Wash Post, 5/22/2011)
